LSU INSTITUTE ON MINERAL LAW

The First Annual Mineral Law Institute was held at the Louisiana State University Law School on February 13 and 14, 1953. The first volume of papers from that Institute were published later that year by the Law School. Dean Paul M. Hebert’s Foreword stated that “the value of the lectures is being continued by making this volume available to the participants of the Institute. . . . In presenting this volume, comprising the lectures at the First Institute, it is believed that a medium is provided to enhance the usefulness of both the initial and future programs.” In 2009, the 56th Annual Institute was held at the LSU Law Center. The papers presented over the intervening 56 years have proved the wisdom of Dean Hebert’s initial observations and goals of the publication of proceedings of the annual Mineral Law Institute. The presentations, as published to be made available to attorneys and the courts, have proved a great resource in the development of Louisiana mineral law. The Mineral Law Institute and the Paul M. Hebert Law Center are pleased that Claitor's Law Books is now publishing the recent volumes and making older volumes available to the public to continue the usefulness of these presentations to Louisiana mineral law.
