Louisiana Ancestors
column format is the oldest of its kind in the
United States, and it is now available by way of the Internet. If you are
interested in continuing reading and enjoying these column formats, you need
to know that it is now a part of Claitor’s Publishing Division’s outstanding
collection of publications (http://www.claitors.com). Queries are published
free and can be any length but should have a Louisiana connection by
heritage or by a state resident working on lines in other areas. Books,
society publications/newsletters, dated notices, and other data of
importance will be reviewed if copies are submitted with each request. All
materials are then donated to the Veach-Foshee Memorial Library Collection
in Mansfield, Louisiana, where all the material will be available for
research. It is one of the largest genealogical collections in the state and
is the property of the DeSoto Parish Historical Society and housed in the
Mansfield Female College, the oldest college for women west of the
Mississippi River. The property is a part of the complex of museums under
the jurisdiction of the Secretary of State. All correspondence concerning
this can be sent to
ancestorslaveach@cox.net.
The snail-mail address is CCPP Ancestors Column, 709 Bungalow Lane, Baton
Rouge, LA 70802-5337. This is a special service to genealogical researchers
and for promotion of all genealogical and historical societies in the state
and in other areas of the country. Volume 1, Number 1 will begin immediately
on a weekly basis.
